Miri an ideal location to be Petros administrative hub – Chai

MIRI: The city of Miri would be an ideal location to be Petros administrative hub, as it has the highest concentration of talents and pedigree of over a century of human resources development in the oil and gas industry in the country, said United People’s Party Pujut chairman Bruce Chai.

Chai said this in response to the need to create more jobs in this former oil town as part of the wider strategy to overcome the high cost of living by the government and the launch of Sarawak’s oil company Petros.

Chai said the downturn of the oil and gas industry had caused significant loss of high value jobs and put a dent to the state and Miri’s economy.

“Bring back work so that people will stay within the community and reduce the brain drain in Malaysia which is not limited to younger generation but working class generation who has to move out to seek jobs befitting their qualification,” he said.

In noting that the launching of Petros by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was the right move, Chai said the state and federal governments could bring back these jobs back to Miri.

“The question is where would Petros administrative hub be and how does Miri feature in this,” he said, emphasising that Miri would be right choice as Petros hub as it has the highest concentration of talents and a big pool of human resources which has evolved from her involvement in the oil and gas industry for over a century.
