20-hectare land approved for second Rela training centre

KOTA KINABALU: The state government approved a 20-hectare  land in Sandakan for a new training camp for the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela).

Chief Minister Datuk Sri Panglima Musa Haji Aman said it would be the second training camp for Rela members, especially in the East Coast.

“The state government has agreed to approve a 20-hectare land to be used as the second Rela training centre.

“On top of that, the government has also agreed to allocate RM6 million for the purchase of uniforms and other items for Rela members,” he said.

Musa said this in conjunction with the 46th People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) anniversary celebration at  UMS Chancellor Building here yesterday.

Also present were Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, state deputy police commissioner Razarudin Husain and Sabah Rela director Trjp Mohammad Pauzi Jhumat.

The event was officiated by Prime Minister Najib Razak simultaneously in a live telecast from Serdang.

Meanwhile, Musa welcomed the announcement made by Najib to increase the hourly allowance rate for Rela members from RM6 to RM8 and from RM7.80 to RM9.80 for Rela officers.

“This shows the trust, confidence and sincerity of our prime minister in appreciating the job, sacrifice and dedication by Rela

“The commitment and determination shown by each Rela member proves that they are always committed to the work that has been entrusted to them,” he said, adding that the existence of Rela had brought about many changes in terms of security and peace.

Musa said the commitment and dedication by Rela could be seen in numerous integrated operations, flood operations and natural disaster operations.

He also pointed out the working relationship between Rela and the Royal Malaysian Police and other government agencies in patrol operations, especially at ESSZone since January.
