SMK Sacred Heart in state’s Top 8 in SPM

SIBU: SMK Sacred Heart is ranked among the top eight schools in the state in last year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), the results for which were released yesterday.

It obtained a school average grade (GPS) of 2.98 – its highest so far. Its GPS in the 2016 SPM was 3.25.

Principal David Teo disclosed that the school has 10 students scoring 11A, 11 students (10A), eight students (9A), nine students (8A), 11 students (7A) and 18 students (5A or better).

School management board treasurer Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau who heads the school’s redevelopment committee commended the school for improving in the examination.

He saidthe La Salle Brothers had established a strong foundation and culture of excellence for the school.

“I believe this is how Sacred Heart School is different from others. I hope to see the continuation of such culture and tradition. The school was established more than 100 years ago.

“Among the primary aims of the La Salle Brothers is to ensure our younger generation get good education,” he said.

Stressing the importance of education, Lau said in Malaysia a big chunk of the national budget goes to education.

The 11A scorers are Ramon Ting Zhi Yuan, Ling Zhe Heng, Loh Jia Cheng, Sim Kah Hou, Jeffery Sia Ming Hong, Tony Hii Siu Siong, Sia You Seng, Low Ngie Pyn, Joshua Wong Cheng Bin and Yeo Deng Hong.

The 10A scorers are Charles Ling Her Yi, Gilbert Wong Yee Loong, Marcus Loh Boon Hong, Benjamin Law Seng Yuan, Clarence Ting Siong Swee, Joseph Siet Jiun Wen, Kelvin Lee Hau Siong, Ting Jing Sheng,

Jonathan Wong Qin Xiang, Darrence Paulus Galang and Alan Wong Ngie Fu.

As for 9A achievers, they are Henry Sia Ing Chuong, Loi Ming Shen, Eric Yong Xuen Lei, Alvin Lau Jian Hong, George Ting Pek Jing, Christopher Tan Wei Jie, Liang Jin Sheng and Darrell Dau.

Present at the school to give encouragement to the students yesterday were school board vice-secretary Yong King Sung, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) vice-chairman II Ngu Liong Beng, Sacred Heart Old Students Association (Shosa) secretary Eddy Puah and senior assistant I Ling Ngie Ming.
