SIBU: Rancangan Sibu 1 (RS1)’s programme to assist the lower-income group in Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Teku yesterday received an overwhelming response from the villagers.

The event kicked off at 8.30am, but the villagers were already in front of ‘Kelas Bina Insan’ building much earlier.

In giving thumbs-up to the programme, Kampung Bahagia Jaya security and development committee (JKKK) Phase I chairman Zaidel Arip said the programme, which ran till 11.30am, was greatly benefitting the local folk.

“The RS1 programme reaches out to the needy, helping to lessen their burden. This is a very good and beneficial programme,” he told reporters.

Kelas Bina Insan chairperson Kadariah Bakar shared Zaidel’s view, thanking the RS1 team for lending a helping hand to needy individuals.

Meanwhile, RS1 chairman Dato Andrew Wong said 1,500 leaflets had been distributed in the village to inform the residents about the programme.

“This is meant especially for residents of the resettlement area. In fact, we have been receiving lots of requests (for the programme) from Kampung Sentosa, where a similar programme was held about two weeks ago. Many said they missed out on it. We may consider going back to Kampung Sentosa, or go to the poorer areas in Bukit Assek. This (programme) is for those in the poorer areas or lower-income group – not for middle-income group. Basic necessities are given out to reduce their burden, especially those in resettlement areas – they really need this,” he said.
