Police continue illegal gambling crackdown with arrests, seizures

KUCHING: Police arrested 55 suspects involved in illegal gambling activities during 40 operations carried out last week.

State CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar disclosed that from March 12-18, a total of 34 raids were carried out against illegal lottery, with five against cyber gambling and one for illegal betting.

“The raids were carried out in Kuching, Miri, Padawan, Bau, Sibu, Bintulu, Saratok, Meradong, Limbang, Sarikei, Sri Aman and Kota Samarahan.

“Twenty-eight of the 55 arrested are males. Those arrested are aged between 16 and 52 years, and includes one foreigner,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He added the raids against illegal lottery activities saw the seizure of over RM10,000, mobile phones, portable printers, betting slips and calculators.

Those held are being investigated under the Common Gaming House Act 1953 and Betting Act 1953.
