MARUDI: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah calls on the rural people here to support the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government and vote for BN in the forthcoming general election.
He said this would ensure smooth implementation of development projects in their midst.
“In the case of Baram seat which previously had a ‘C’ chance of winning, this time I want to see Baram getting ‘A+’
“With an A+, I am sure our prime minister will give us a better deal in as far as development is concerned. After many years of independence, we can see that development in Baram, and in the whole state, is fast-paced
under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,” Uggah said at a meet-the-people session at Rh Benang Pilang in Sg Bakas, Bakong recently.
Uggah said Najib had come to the state many times and not once did he come empty-handed, testimony that he is a sincere and caring leader
“It is thus our responsibility to ensure that Baram will continue to come under BN to make it easier for its representative (MP) to forward applications to the federal government for development purposes.”
Uggah also lauded the Baram Team consisting of Baram MP Anyi Ngau from Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Marudi assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil (PDP), Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat
Gala from the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau (PBB) – for their continuous efforts in developing Baram.
“With strong cooperation between all four BN component parties, there is no reason why the BN candidate in Baram will not get bigger majority in the next election.
Uggah, who is also Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development, said the government was determined to transform the rural area through various initiatives, including the establishment of Highland Development Agency (HDA), Upper Rajang Development Agency (Urda) and Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).
“The state government is determined that by 2030, all Sarawakians would be able to enjoy strong growth and development and that the rural-urban gap is very much narrowed,” he said.
Anyi, Assistant Minister of Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, Assistant Minister of Industries and Investment Malcolm Mussen Lamoh who is Batang Ai assemblyman, State Legislative Assembly (DUN) deputy speaker Datuk Gerawat Gala, Dennis Ngau, Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu, PDP secretary-general Datuk Nelson Balang Rining, Senator Datuk Paul Igai, Senator Dr Nuing Jeluing, Miri Resident Sherrina Hussaini, and Pemanca Enggah Muga were also present at the session.
At the programme, Rh Benang Pilang village security and development committee (JKKK) and its women bureau received minor rural project (MRP) grants totalling RM75,000 from Uggah who contributed RM40,000, RM20,000 from Anyi, RM10,000 from Malcolm, and RM5,000 from Gerawat.
