MIRI: Miri Archery Association believes their team did the resort city and the state proud with their haul of five gold, three silver and four bronze medals in the recent 19th Sarawak Outdoor Archery Championship held in Sibu.

22 archers from Miri participated in the tournament which attracted over 200 entries from other countries and other states.

Over 200 archers from several states took part in the competition that also serves as a great platform to prepare the archers for upcoming competitions, including Sukma, said David.

“This tournament is something similar to Sukma and we use it as preparation for team selection,” said association president David Ting.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting agrees with the assessment, saying it was no easy feat.

“Sarawakians especially Mirians are proud of this fantastic achievement considering that teams which competed are known to have the best archers in the country,” he said.

“By winning many medals in this national competition, it proves that hard work, discipline and commitment bring such wonderful results and helps to achieve its aim of becoming the powerhouse for archery,” he added while commending the athletes and officials during a press conference at King’s Archery, Permaisuri Imperial City Mall on Saturday to welcome the team home.

The gold medalists were Bryson Ting Tiew Luing, Lee Siaw Jing, Lee Siaw Ying and Bryan Lee while Pui Jer Min and Emily Loh were the other medalists.
