Thomas Ling
KUCHING: Thomas Ling Neng Thung, who is one of the country’s top throws coach, has conducted a coaching clinic for over 30 physical education trainee teachers at the Institute of Teacher Education Tun Abdul Razak Campus in Kota Samarahan on March 29.
Sarikei-based Ling has a unparalleled track record in developing and mentoring many champions in the shot put, discus, hammer and javelin for many years.
He is credited as the man behind the long list of top national throwers who hail from Sarikei.
Current SEA Games champions and national record holders in the hammer throw – Jackie Wong and Grace Wong – are among the many who had benefitted from his coaching.
Recently, he collaborated with Sibu coaches to groom rising star Johnny Ling to become ASEAN schools champion in the same event.
During the recent clinic, Ling stressed the need to have a strong foundation of basic fundamental skills in developing athletes.
Campus lecturer Dr Chin Ngien Siong, who was present during the clinic, thanked Ling not only for sharing his expertise but also his significant contribution to athletics in Sarawak and Malaysia.
