SIBU: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) secretary-general Datuk Joseph Salang tells the Dayak community to support the BN, particularly Dayak candidates in the coming general election, saying they have everything to gain.

“The resulting strong representation at the federal level could then work with their state counterparts to chart out more development plans and strategies to fast track their advancement,” he said at a meet-the-people session at Rh Nyanau Kelukut in Mujok recently.

Earlier, he officiated at the opening of a concrete footpath and a water supply project at the longhouse.

He said at the state-level, Dayak leaders were already holding very important and relevant positions in the government.

“We have PRS president himself (Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing) who is one of the deputy chief ministers and Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation.

“Then we have another deputy chief minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who is also Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development.

“Then there is Dato Sri Michael Manyin, another Dayak leader who is Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research, and Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi who is Minister of Utilities.

“When we retain the Dayak incumbents, many of whom are very senior leaders, the state leaders would lend them sympathetic ears based on the strong ties and friendship they have formed over the years,” Salang said.

Salang, who will most likely defend his Julau seat for PRS, said the Dayak community certainly needed all the help and attention it could get.

Commenting on the state’s election manifesto, he said it was basically formulated to advance the people’s welfare, wellbeing and progress.

He said there were plans and strategies for all basic infrastructure, amenities and telecommunication facilities to be increased or upgraded.

“These are all very pertinent matters to allow the state to achieve its digital economy objective,” he said.

Later, Salang presented minor rural project (MRP) grants totaling RM419,000 to 29 longhouses in the area.
