KUCHING: The RM122-million bridge linking the Emart Matang roundabout and Stapok in Batu Kawah was opened yesterday to motorists after the project’s Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) was issued.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the CPC was issued on Friday and that only minor work still needs to be done before the bridge is officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg next week.
“Everything is in place so we open this bridge before the official opening ceremony on April 19,” he said after conducting a final inspection yesterday.
He said he had directed the contractor to improve several parts of the road leading to the bridge which had uneven surface.
“Not a big issue (uneven road surface) and I believe the contractor can rectify it as soon as possible,” he added.
Fadillah also disclosed that following input from residents of nearby Taman Lee Ling, there will be additional work scope to build a bypass from the neighbourhood to MetroCity.
“We had discussed the matter with the Public Works Department (PWD) and an additional RM800,000 will be allocated for this bypass road together with a smart traffic light system,” he said, adding that construction will kick off once the funds are issued.

He also said that RM4 million will be allocated to build a road leading to Kampung Gita and Kampung Sungai Maong which are also located near the new bridge.
