‘Schools used as polling centres can apply for replacement holiday’

KUALA NERANG: Schools used as polling centres for the 14th general election are allowed to take replacement holiday on the day prior to polling day, said Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

This, he said, was based on a circular, ‘Surat Pekeliling Ikhtisas (SPI) Bilangan 2 1995: Persediaan Bagi PRU’, which allowed school heads or principals to apply for replacement holiday through their respective state education directors.

“However, it is only for schools which are to be used as polling centres, and the replacement holiday should be only for one day before the polling day, not after the polling day,” he told reporters after opening the National Blue Ocean Strategy programme, ‘Community Support For Schools’ at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kuala Nerang here yesterday.

To that effect, he advised the school heads and principals concerned to submit their application.

Mahdzir was responding to a request by the Congress of Unions of Teachers in the Malaysian Education Service for the ministry to consider giving schools that would be involved in GE14 replacement leave.

A total of 6,971 schools nationwide will be used as polling centres on May 9. — Bernama
