KUCHING: Husnul Khatimah Wajidi hopes she has taken another major step in pursuing her dream of competing against the best in the world.

Yesterday, she raised the axle bar wedged under a 1,200kg Perodua Kelisa, delivering 27 deadlifts in one minute at the Sarawak Plaza here. The 39-year-old was cheered on by family, friends and spectators.

The publicity stunt was supported by Sarawak Plaza Management and Lea Sports Centre.

Last October, Husnul qualified in the Under 72kg category for the Static Monsters World Championships to be held in Gold Coast, Australia on May 20.

She is the only athlete from Malaysia who has qualified to compete in this year’s grand finals.

Husnul, who is an athlete registered under Sarawak Extreme Sports Association, has a Level One CrossFit certification and has been training at CrossFit Kuching since 2013.

The more she worked out, the more serious she became with the sport.

“It became a very addictive habit. And it’s also about how your training translates into your emotional state,” she told reporters after yesterday’s event.

Sarawak’s very own strongwoman is determined not to miss an opportunity to face up against a line-up of strongwomen from all over the world.

She hopes to raise US$2,500 to fund her Gold Coast trip.
