SMK Chung Hua Miri reigns supreme in choral speaking

MIRI: SMK Chung Hua Miri has again won the Miri Division Inter-Secondary School Choral Speaking
Competition.

The school has won the title every year since 2000, except for 2015, when it was pipped by SMK Baru, but that same
year SMK Chung Hua Miri managed to win the state-level competition.

For this year’s Miri Division competition, the school’s piece was entitled ‘Cherish’.

In second place was SMK Pujut with the piece ‘How the Orangutans Saved Sarawak’, while SMK Baru came in third with ‘Plastic Bags! What’s the Big Deal?’.

SMK Lutong came in fourth with ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’, while SMK Riam’s ‘Tales of Environmental Issues’ was fifth.

The best conductor award  went to Heng Lok Yee from SMK Pujut, Michael Jun Ze Kong from SMK Chung Hua Miri, and Kathreena Lahai Pius from SMK Baru.

Sarawak Oil Palms Bhd (SOPB) was event co-organiser and sponsor.

“Through this competition, we hope to assist our state and country cultivate interest among students to learn English so that they are able to compete in the global community,” said  SOPB head of sustainability Galau Melayong.
