PEKAN: Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor called on women especially those in the Pekan parliamentary constituency to continue supporting Barisan Nasional (BN) to ensure a spillover of economic benefits and facilities to the group in the future.

She said women should evaluate the long-standing contribution and struggle of the BN as the coalition not only have a good track record, but also a manifesto for the 14th General Election (GE14) that prioritised the welfare of the women and people as a whole.

“In the recently launched BN Manifesto, once again priority had been given to the women.

“This manifesto symbolises the commitment of BN to empower women as a wife, mother, daughter and career woman as well as placing this group a notch higher,” she said in her speech at the opening ceremony of the Women Empowerment Seminar and presentation of donations to women’s non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the Pekan parliamentary constituency here yesterday.

Some 800 members of various NGOs and women’s associations in the constituency attended the event which was organised by Pertubuhan Perkumpulan Perempuan Daerah Pekan, in conjunction with the Women’s Empowerment Year 2018.

Rosmah said BN, for instance, would set up the Women’s Economic Council, to be chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak himself, as well as plan to create a transformation centre for the women entrepreneurs to empower the economy of the group.

She also reminded the participants of the seminar not to be fooled by the allegations and propaganda that were often being hurled by the opposition.

“People should realise that the opposition’s political agenda is just to take over the (federal) administration but they are not even united when it comes to collaborating among themselves.

“Whereas BN has, for a long time, proven its excellence (and track record) in forming a solid government and always fulfilling its promises,” Rosmah said.

At the event, she also presented cash donations to all 21 NGOs and women’s associations for the parliamentary constituency. — Bernama
