Man arrested for suspected drug abuse

MIRI: Miri Police have arrested a local man for suspected drug abuse yesterday.

Miri district police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah in confirming the arrest, said the suspect, 28, was apprehended at around 6.15pm by Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of Miri District Police near a junction of Miri-Bekenu coastal road.

“The physical examination on the suspect found a black plastic packet containing two transparent plastic packets, each containing lumps of crystalline believed to be methamphetamine with estimated weight of 102 grammes in a black sling bag held by suspect.

“Also found in the sling bag were an international passport, a limited Brunei passport, and a wallet which contained an identification card and a driver’s license belonging to the suspect,” he said.

Lim revealed that the suspect, who was tested negative for drugs, had no previous criminal record.

He revealed that the estimated value of the drugs confiscated is about RM9,000.

The case is being investigated under Section 39 (B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
