SRI AMAN: All races in the State are urged to join forces in retaining the stability, harmony and unity that has long existed despite the various different backgrounds.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the people need to come together in strengthening the spirit of respect for one another and be smart in handling various issues spread in the social media.

“With the current environment starting to show cracks and disagreement especially as we are preparing to face the general election, there is a negative perception on the leader and government. We don’t want Muslims to have wrong perception due to influence by certain groups that have hidden agenda, be it political, threatening our security or creating violence,” he said when launching a ‘Seminar Pembangunan Ummah 2018’ at the Sri Aman Civic Centre on Friday.

Awang Tengah who is also Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources said many parties try to gain support using various methods and some Muslims are influenced by their personalities.

He noted that the main objective of the seminar was to strengthen the co-operation and unity among the people, especially amongst muslims in Sri Aman.

He said that although Islam is the official religion, followers of other religions are free to practise their own faith, especially in Sarawak.
