Fleeing snatch thieves arrested after crashing into vehicle

KOTA KINABALU: Two criminals fleeing on a motorcycle rammed into a four-wheel-drive vehicle moments after snatching a woman’s cellphone at Taman Bukit Sepanggar, here on Wednesday.

The suspects, believed to be in their mid 20s, were subsequently detained by members of the public before they were handed to the police.

The incident happened around 6pm when the suspects, on a motorcycle rode pass the woman before thr pillion ridder snatched her cellphone.

As the suspects were making their escape, the rider allegedly lost control of the bike and rammed into an on coming four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Meanwhile, city police chief ACP M. Chandra confirm the incident and said both suspects are in their custody.

“The victim, in her 20s, only sustained minor injuries after falling on the road.

“She had received outpatient treatment and was discharged from hospital the sameday,” he said.

Chandra thanked the public for their action in apprehending the suspects without any untoward incident.

The case will be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
