KUCHING: Solving issues concerning basic facilities such as electricity and water supplies, and finding the best method to improve the quality of life of people living near the Batang Ai water catchment area are among the pledges of Robert Pasang Alam, the BN candidate for Lubok Antu

“For the past few months, I have been going to the ground in Lubok Antu, and found that issues concerning basic facilities such as roads, electricity and water supplies have to be addressed once and for all.

“Even though I am new, I hope the voters will give me a chance and also give me time to understand the issues at grassroots level,” said the 52-year-old, who is one of the new faces fielded by the state BN to stand in the upcoming general election.

Speaking to reporters after receiving his letter of appointment from Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at PBB headquarters here yesterday, Robert, who is formerly Sabah prosecution chief, also gave his assurance that he would assist the government on issues such as the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and NCR land.

“Of course, these things need more planning and more time. But I will definitely assist the government if I were elected as the new Lubok Antu MP.”

He admitted that he would have to work extra hard to defend Lubok Antu, a constituency he described as close to his heart.

“I was in fact born here but I moved to Miri with my parents where I grew up. However, every now and then, I came back to Lubok Antu,” he said.

He also believed in working hard for the people and not taking things for granted.

“My philosophy is that even the simplest things, we should not take for granted. By working hard, people will know my commitment and seriousness in ensuring that Lubok Antu will be developed,” he said.

Robert is replacing incumbent Datuk William Nyalau who has been the MP for the past two terms.
