SARIKEI: The parliamentary constituency here will have a three-cornered contest involving candidates from Barisan Nasional (BN), Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK).

DAP has re-nominated Andrew Wong Ling Biu to defend the seat, while BN picked Repok assemblyman Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii to wrest back its former stronghold, and PBK placed its hope on its Sarikei branch chairman Wong Chin King.

Returning Officer (RO) Abang Mohd Porkan Abang Budiman announced the candidacy after confirming that all three had met the requirements.

First to file the nomination forms was Huang, who arrived at the centre with his proposer Lau Hieng Ping and seconder Ling Dien Yong at 9.01am yesterday.

Andrew, who was accompanied by his proposer Wong Hua Seh and seconder Wong Pek Ngea, arrived at 9.11am; Chin King, along with his proposer Wong Lee Lee and seconder Wong Siew Hieh, took his turn to file his papers at 9.18am.

Andrew is defending the seat he won in a contest against BN’s then-incumbent Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing in the May 2013 parliamentary polls – the former earned a majority of 505 votes in the predominantly-Chinese constituency, which has a total of 39,561 registered voters.
