HSU Police bust a refined sugar retailer

BANJARMASIN, S Kalimantan: North Hulu Sungai Police (HSU) cracked down on refined sugar crystal retailer selling at a shop in a village in Danau Panggang Sub-district, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

“We found 210 bags containing 10,500 kilograms of refined sugar of BMM brand,” said Head of Public Relations of HSU Police First Insp (Iptu) Alam in Amuntai on Sunday.

The perpetrator, MH (35), he said, is the owner of the shop. He was caught selling the prohibited refined sugar.

“Refined sugar should only be traded for industries with special permits,” explained Alam.

For his actions, he is charged under Article 62 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 8 paragraph (1) sub-paragraph a of Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection.

He is also subject to Article 110 Jo Article 30 paragraph (1) and/or Article 106 of Law No. 7 of 2014 on Trade.

“The perpetrators and evidence are secured for further investigation,” Alam said.

Just to note, the distribution of refined sugar or industrial specialty sugar is only for industrial needs as stipulated in Article 9 of Regulation of the Minister of Trade No. 117 of 2015 which stated that refined crystal sugar can only be distributed to the industry.
