KABONG: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing yesterday appealed for full support from Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters in Saratok to vote for Subeng Mula, and pledged that he would personally monitor his performance in parliament if elected.

“I have asked the pilot just now whether this river got crocodile or not, and he said yes, if he does not perform we know what to do,” he said in jest to bursts of laughter from the floor.

Tiong was on his maiden visit to Kabong, a Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) stronghold. He said he was very happy with the reception from the people during the ‘meet and greet’ session with the BN-PDP candidate and promised to regularly come to Kabong to meet the people.

Admitting that Kabong people are now faced with water shortage, Tiong promised that Subeng would bring the issue up in parliament again and again until the problem is resolved.

“Although the Chief Minister has approved a fund to solve the problem, we will follow up the issue on water supply and other issues faced by the Kabong people. I am there in parliament to check on him, if he does not perform, I know what to do,” Tiong stressed.

Tiong reminded the voters not to be duped by fake news spread via the social media such as chat groups by certain individuals to confuse the people.

“If you listen blindly to these rumours, you will fall into the river. The crocodiles will celebrate,” he said.

When met after the function, Tiong said he was happy to see the close cooperation between BN component parties, especially the full support from PBB.

When asked to explain what fake news meant, Tiong was quick to point out that false news were spread on social media that Pakatan Harapan (PH) had won five seats in Sabah on nomination day.

“I was still busy with the nomination when people called me, saying Sabah BN had lost five seats. They said Pakatan had won five seats. When I checked with my friends, these were all fake news,” he said.

Meanwhile, BN director of operations for Kabong Mohd Chee Kadir, who is Kabong assemblyman, pledged full support to ensure victory for BN in Saratok.

He said the people of Kabong were matured enough to know the difference between BN and Democratic Action Party (DAP)-led PH which is using a 93-year-old as their so-called leader.

“You can see their manifesto and our manifesto, and judge for yourself which one is empty promise and which one is designed to improve the livelihood of the people for the better,” he said.

Present were Subeng, Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat and PBB Krian branch chairman Datuk Douglas Sullang.
