LAWAS: The ‘Jogathon and Walkathon 2018’, hosted by the Malaysian Muslim Welfare Organisation (Perkim), was a welcome distraction amidst the election fever.

The event, which attracted some 600 participants, was meant to raise funds for Perkim Lawas.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan performed the flag-off at 8am yesterday at Lawas Amphitheatre, right after a mass aerobic session.

The ceremony was witnessed by his wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud and Barisan Nasional candidate for Lawas parliamentary constituency Datuk Henry Sum Agong.

In her remarks Dayang Morliah, who is Perkim Lawas chairperson, expressed her thanks to the donors, schools, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government agencies and also individuals for supporting this charitable cause.

“However, the funds raised by the students would be channelled back to their respective schools,” she said, adding that the event was also meant to promote healthy lifestyle and activities to the public.

The jogathon category was further divided into the senior citizens, secondary school students and primary school pupils’ sub-categories, while the ‘walkathon’ was for children with special needs and their caregivers.
