KOTA SAMARAHAN: The close ties between the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Batang Sadong parliamentary constituency Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and the federal side would be of great advantage with regard to development of the area.

It is within this premise that Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo is calling upon the people of Batang Sadong to choose Nancy in the May 9 polls.

Moreover, Aidel commends Nancy for her vital contribution in the process of negotiating with the federal government on the return of Sarawak’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“Just in March, the steering committee for the implementation of devolution of powers between the federal government and governments of Sarawak and Sabah met at the Parliament in Kuala Lumpur, and (the meeting) concluded with some positive results. It was jointly chaired by Nancy representing Sarawak, and Datuk Seri Anifah Aman representing Sabah,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Aidil also said Nancy’s commitment in ensuring that Sarawak’s demands would be met had been so significant that the demands became among the key points in the federal BN manifesto unveiled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently.

Sadong Jaya and Simunjan are the state constituencies under Batang Sadong.

In this election, two-term MP Nancy faces Othman Mustapha from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Asan Singkro from Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS).

It is learnt that Batang Sadong has 23,131 registered voters.
