BAGAN DATUK: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has described the people’s response to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates for the 14th General Election (GE14) as super extraordinary.
Ahmad Zahid, who has also been campaigning for other BN candidates nationwide, said there was also an extraordinary increase in the people’s support for BN this time around compared to GE12 and GE13.
“From Perlis to Johor, we can see that there is a huge wave of support for BN. The wind of change is blowing in the East Coast. We can feel the positive change.
“The (super extraordinary) response we see now is worrying our opponents. That is why they resorted to using various tactics, including last minute surprise attack on the BN, especially the prime minister.
“I hope this (support) will be translated into votes on May 9,” he told a press conference after launching the Back2School Programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sg Nipah here.
Ahmad Ahmad Zahid, who is also BN deputy chairman, said the response of the people in Sabah and Sarawak, including in the rural and remote areas, had also been overwhelming.
“I’m confident to say this because I have seen it with my own eyes. Even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is currently in Sabah, has also witnessed this encouraging response of the people,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid said although the information in social media suggested that victory was in favour of the opposition, the reality was that the silent majority was still with the BN.
“Such suggestion went viral on social media because the (opposition’s) programmes and gatherings were mostly held in urban areas, but we know that 70 per cent of state and parliamentary seats are in rural areas,” he said.
He also called on all Malaysian citizens, especially registered voters, not to fall for fake and false news, as well as the psychological war campaign of the opposition, which clearly was running out of ideas.
“I hope we will remain steadfast in giving our support to all BN candidates. This must continue until 5pm on the May 9 polling day,” he said.
Meanwhile, at the launch of the Back2School Programme organised by the Muslim Aid Malaysia Humanitarian Foundation, 60 students were selected as pioneer participants to be given exposures on the preservation and conservation of the environment, especially swamp forests, in the constituency.
A total of 20 schools had been identified to participate in the programme from June 2017 to May 2019. — Bernama
