KUCHING: The crocodile culling operation along Sungai Sarawak between the barrage here and Rantau Panjang, Batu Kawah has resulted in the capture of one crocodile.

The week-long operation, from May 3 to 7 was part of the crocodile management plan by Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT).

The reptile which was caught at the ‘Crocodile Removal Zone’ is believed to be the very one reported by villagers of Kampung Rantau Panjang as ‘terrorising the river’ there.

“The male crocodile measuring 3.73m in length was caught at noon last Saturday. The operation was considered a success whereby SWAT members established an operation area covering the river system between Batu Kawah bridge and Satok bridge,” said SFC in a statement issued yesterday.

Members of the public are reminded to notify the nearest Forest Department or SFC offices of any sighting of crocodiles in their areas. They are also strongly advised against taking matters into their own hands as these reptiles are dangerous.
