KUALA LUMPUR: The appointment of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Malaysia’s first female deputy prime  minister continues to receive support and recognition.

Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, in a statement yesterday, congratulated Dr Wan Azizah, Parti Keadilan Rakrat (PKR) president, on her appointment as deputy prime minister, and said she was proud of her historical achievement.

“Although we have different political affiliation as a mother and a female leader, I feel very proud of this historical achievement as a result of our efforts and the provisions of Allah.

“We are confident that Datin Seri (Dr Wan Azizah) will perform well and reunite all Malaysians. Wishing her all the best under the blessings of Allah,” she said.

Wan Azizah’s appointment  was announced by Pakatan Harapan  chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also Malaysia’s seventh Prime Minister as soon as the party was declared as winner in the 14th general election on Thursday. — Bernama
