KUCHING: The state women’s sepak takraw team finished runners-up in two categories of the Road to Sukma sepak takraw tournament in Paroi, Negeri Sembilan last week.
The May 11-13 tournament, organised by the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association, served as a qualifying tournament for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Perak this year.
According to a press statement, Sarawak finished a commendable second in regu and kuadrant categories, losing the finals to Sabah and Terengganu respectively.
The team had undergone intensive training since March under Thai coach Sura Matwasaeng.
Team manager Hasweera Hassan said that the players would be sent overseas for training.
“We want to prepare them well for the games. I believe that the team will only get better after this,” he added in the statement.
