MIRI: The Miri Radio Control Flying Club (MRCFC) Airshow Expo from 9am to 5pm this Sunday at the Miri City Council (MCC) field will feature various radio-controlled aircraft.

Club chairman Wong Yack Shien said the airshow is part of the Miri May Fest 2018 programme.

“There will be model aeroplanes, turbine jets, electric jet planes, drones and helicopters display, formation flying, drone racing, and individual performances,” he told a press conference yesterday.

He said the size of model aeroplane engines to be displayed is up to 55cc and there will also be a scale 1:8 jet plane with 6kg turbine engine, apart from helicopters with engines up to 22cc.

“In addition to that, spectators can also have the experience of flying different planes using a computer flight simulator. A computer screen will be set up to display a live bird’s eye view of Miri captured by camera mounted on the model plane,” he said.

Wong said over 50 club members will be at the event, which is also open to members of the public.

“Members of the public are welcome to watch the display and will be informed of safety procedures during the take-off and landing of model aircraft. Ambulance and Rela (People’s Volunteer Corps) teams will also be present to respond to any emergency,” he said.

Wong said interested members of the public can also join the club.

“Our club aims to educate and develop youths positively, make them safety conscious, and equip them with the technical know-how.

“Club members will also have the opportunity to learn radio control flying skill as well as gain knowledge and practical experience in aircraft construction, engineering, and modelling such as aerodynamics, structural support, electronic and machinery,” he said.
