Top brass of rail projects, govt officials summoned by team of eminent persons

KUALA LUMPUR: The top brass of mega rail projects and government officials were summoned by the Council of Eminent Persons yesterday.

Among those who gave briefings to the Council were Deputy Director-General (Sectoral) of the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk  Allauddin Anuar; Director-General of Public Private Partnership Unit Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hussain; Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MyHSR Corporation Sdn Bhd Datuk Mohd Nur Ismail Mohamed Kamal and CEO of Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak.

The Council also met Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah in his capacity as Chairman of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Irwan Serigar has been emplaced in the Public Service Department from Tuesday, while his contract as Treasury Secretary-General will end on June 14. He is also not permitted to perform any task relating to the Ministry of Finance.

Chief Statistician Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr Uzir Mahidin was also present to give a briefing on the country’s first-quarter 2018 gross domestic product report.

Almost all who were present kept mum on the outcome of their respective meetings, except for East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) who shed some light.

Malaysia Rail Link, the project owner of the ECRL, said business is as usual for the rail project with work progress touching 14 per cent as of Tuesday.

“The Council (of Eminent Persons) is fully aware of the ECRL progress. There is no stop order of work for the rail project,” said Malaysia Rail Link Head of Corporate Communication, Rosmah Mahmud.

The council is expected to issue a statement by the end of this week, she added.

Also seen in the building during yesterday’s briefing were Selangor Menteri  Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and Parti Keadilan Rakyat Vice-President Chua Tian Chang. – Bernama
