KUCHING: State BN secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi says Sarawak should be able to withstand the political tsunami brought about by the downfall of the BN federal government in the just concluded general election as BN has strong fundamentals to continue administering the state.
“We already have a strong state government after the 2016 state election. So, we just carry on with our responsibility as mandated by the people,” Nanta said when contacted yesterday.
He added that in the next state election to be held in 2021, Sarawak should be able to prevail under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, with the support of the four component parties.
“Going forward shouldn’t be an issue because we already have a strong state government. We have plenty of resources. The chief minister has also assured us that we will be able to work with the federal government.”
Nanta, who is also Kapit MP, said the chief minister has made it very clear that Sarawak would collaborate with the Pakatan Harapan-led federal government so as not to be left out of federal allocation.
“He (the chief minister) has made it very clear that we are willing to collaborate with the federal government for the good of the people. So, there is no issue about that. But if we have to play a role then we will play a role. He (chief minister) has also promised that he would consult state BN component parties before making any decision.”
While SUPP, PRS and PBB have met and discussed the issue, PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, when contacted, said his party would convene its supreme council meeting soon.
“But what’s the hurry. The federal government has not even settled down yet. After we have had our supreme council meeting, we will surely inform you (press),” said Tiong.
