Rotary club’s community projects a success

BINTULU: The Rotary Club of Bintulu Central (RCBC) successfully carried out its community service projects in Belaga district recently.

A total of RM17,300 worth of items which included school uniforms, dictionaries and fire extinguishers were distributed to SK Airport Belaga, Uma Kahei Belaga and Uma Kejaman Neh.

The distribution of school uniforms and dictionaries to rural schools and fire awareness and prevention project were carried out after a six-month preparatory work.

The club thanked the main sponsors namely LDS Charities, Logistic Cergas Maju Sdn Bhd and Rotary clubs from Johor and Singapore for their contribution to the projects.

The RCBC volunteers spent two days and one night in Belaga to carry out the projects.

In the first project at SK Airport, about 150 Primary 1 and 6 pupils were provided with school uniforms.

The school also received 30 dictionaries and five fire extinguishers. Fire drills and training were also held.

The club also distributed 47 and 34 units of fire extinguishers to Uma Kahei and Uma Kejaman respectively where fire drills and training were also held for the longhouse folk.

Speaking on behalf of LDS Charities, Elder Craig Wilson hoped the students would do their best and excel in everything that they do now and in the future.

MeanWhile, RCBC president Allen Wong Ching Seng said that it was a joint effort of all parties to deliver all the items to Belaga.

He pointed out that the geographical challenges was their biggest concern but the projects were completed smoothly and safely with all shared one common core value: ‘Service Above Oneself’.

“These sponsored items must be cherished as they represent the love and care of many.

“RCBC is grateful to SK Airport, longhouse residents, club members and friends for their cooperation and participation in the projects which can make a difference,” said Wong.
