In a statement yesterday, Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said police arrested the 20-year-old after discovering compressed dried leaves, believed to be cannabis, inside a backpack in a closet of one of the bedrooms.

“The gross weight of the drugs seized was 1,000 grams, estimated to be worth RM12,000,” he said.

“Police also seized a Proton Saga from the suspect worth RM30,000.”

Lim added the suspect has no past criminal record.

Police are investigating the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act for trafficking in dangerous drugs, which carries a mandatory death sentence.
