MIRI: Nanga Lait villager Gagah Berundang, 60, has appealed to the National Registration Department (JPN) to speed up processing a MyKad for his nephew Ajung Kumap, 40.

Ajung, from Kampung Antayan Kropok, Serian, has an Extraction of Birth Certificate from last July stating he is a Malaysian citizen, but due to his late registration in 2000, he has been unable to get a MyKad.

Gagah said Ajung is now a father of three and works as a labourer for an oil palm estate in Tatau.

“I’m worried as he is getting older and with three children now and it’s very hard to find a secure job with no identity card as nowadays employers will ask for documentation to verify if they are locals,” Gagah told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Gagah said his nephew also has no formal education because he lost his father Kumap Mambang when he was still little.

“I’m worried about my nephew as I’m the elder in the family and am trying to give help to ensure Ajung has proper documentation so he can find a secure job,” he said.

When contacted, a JPN spokesperson in Kuching said Ajung’s case is now being

studied by the department’s panel.

The spokesperson called on Ajung to continue checking and following up the case with JPN Kuching after three months.
