TAWAU: Fourteen Tanjong Batu Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) leaders and village chiefs quit from Umno yesterday in support of assemblywoman Datuk Hamisa Samat’s decision to join the ruling state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

The group’s spokesperson, Kampung Rancangan Kalabakan JKKK chairman Asmadi Suping said for the moment they will not be joining any party and just wanted to voice their support not only for Hamisa, but also the chief minister and prime minister.

He said they unanimously decided to quit Umno/Barisan Nasional officially as of yesterday because they had no confidence in the party leadership at both the state and national levels.

Asmadi hoped all quarters would accept their decision with an open heart and give their support to Hamisa.
