Kunak, Lahad Datu residents feel tremors

LAHAD DATU: Residents around Lahad Datu and Kunak felt two tremors in 10 minutes yesterday evening.

Baharudin Labahu, 28, a private sector employee, said he felt a five to six-second tremor while at his home at Simpang Empat Kunak in Kunak.

“I was resting at home, and when the tremor occurred I did not assume it was an earthquake but I was able to open my WhatsApp and realised many of my friends also felt the tremor.

“After a few minutes, another tremor occurred,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

A resident of Taman Aman 3 in Lahad Datu, Ainul Durmahyanty Durming also felt the tremors while sitting with her family.

“During the (first) tremor, I felt the chair shake and I asked my mother who apparently also felt the tremor.

“Not long aftewards, there was another shock, not more than 10 minutes from the first,” she said.

Meanwhile, according to the Meteorological Department’s website, there was a weak earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale at 3.53 pm, located 4.7 degrees north and 118.2 degrees east, namely, 8 km north-west of Kunak at a depth of 10 km. – Bernama.
