KUCHING: The government has decided to establish a special trust fund called “Tabung Harapan Malaysia” (or in short THM) in order to provide a systematic and transparent platform to ensure all contributions and donations from the people are properly managed and organised.

Finance Minister Lim Guang Eng, in a press statement today, said the THM will be managed by the Ministry of Finance.

“The nature of donations and contributions are restricted to cash denominated in our local currency (Ringgit Malaysia) only. All contributions shall be deposited into Malayan Banking Berhad, account number 566010626452,” he said.

Earlier, Lim said due to the recent economic development and the growing concern among the ‘rakyat’ on the country’s current debt position, there are signs of awareness from the ‘rakyat’ to lend their support to the government.

“The ‘rakyat’ voluntarily want to share their earnings with the government to help ease the burden,” he added.

Lim concluded his statement by expressing his sincere appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the government to all Malaysians for their support, concerns and willingness to help the government in addressing the current economic situation.
