MIRI: A medical evacuation (medevac) team carried out an operation to airlift an injured tourist from Camp 3 in Mount Mulu yesterday.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Miri chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said the female climber, aged 35, fell at Camp 3 and suffered injuries to her back.

“The victim met with the accident around 6pm on Tuesday (May 29) but the helicopter could only be dispatched yesterday morning,” he said in a statement.

Law said the victim could not be moved due to her injuries, which led Bomba to send a medevac team. “The team departed Miri at 8am and arrived in Mulu at 8.30am,” he said.

The victim was lifted into the helicopter using the winching technique and arrived at Miri Hospital at 10.04am.

Bomba personnel carry the victim on a stretcher to an awaiting ambulance at Miri Hospital.
