MIRI : Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon questioned the state government’s conduct in keeping Sarawakians in the dark over Petronas’ lawsuit when it should have prior knowledge through its representative sitting in the company’s Board of Directors.

In a press statement today, Dr Ting pointed finger at Sarawak State Secretary Tan Sri Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani, who sits on the Petronas Board, saying that the latter would have known in advance the company’s intention as a board meeting would have to be held.

“Before Petronas makes the appeal to the Federal Court, the company must have held a board meeting, and as a Board member of Petronas, Tan Sri Morshidi would have known in advance prior to the appeal to the Federal Court,” he said.

Dr Ting said it would be a norm for the State Secretary to inform the Sarawak State Government and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on the appeal.

If he did not, he is not fulfilling his responsibilities in protecting Sarawak’s petroleum assets, he added.

“I think the state government is fooling itself and belittled the people’s wisdom,” said Dr Ting, while urging the chief minister and the State Secretary to tell the truth about Petronas’ action.
