KUCHING: Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) Sarawak yesterday gave its assurance that farm produce in the wet markets of Sarawak are sufficient for the duration of this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Its director Shahid Abu Bakar said that they were assured of sufficient supply by several suppliers.

“I have discussed with suppliers and they gave their word to continue adding or increasing their stock, including daily necessities throughout this festive season,” he told reporters.

He advised the public not to worry and said they can visit the pasar tani as usual.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating at the Jualan Jimat Belanja Aidilfitri 2018 programme at Medan Niaga Satok (MNS) here yesterday.

Present was Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) Sarawak deputy director Md Nawawi Abdul Rahman.

On the programme, Shahid said it is held by Fama Sarawak in seven locations across the state for five days starting yesterday.

Other locations include Pasar Tani Demak Laut, Pasar Tani Bandar Baru Samariang, Pasar Tani Permai Sibu, Pasar Tani Daro and Pasar Tani Tedungan, Limbang.

The programme aims to make it easier for consumers to get their daily goods with the coming of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“Goods on sale here include chicken, meat, terubok (fish), vegetables, cakes and ‘daun palas’ for ketupat. Everything is fresh, of high quality and reasonably priced.”

Fama Sarawak also sells sugar, oil and flour at a special price to help those in the low and middle income group.

Last year, the total sales for the Ramadan Bazaar was RM1,021,861.35. Meanwhile the Pre-Syawal Special Sales (now Jualan Jimat Belanja Aidilfitri) brought in RM463,900.

“The total for both programmes was RM1,485,761.35. This year, we target that Jualan Jimat Belanja Aidilfitri will make RM500,000, while Bazar Ramadan is expected to bring in RM1 million.”
