Gawai Dayak do to involve procession

KUCHING: This year’s Sarawak-level Gawai Dayak celebration here on June 22 promises to be a grand affair.

The highlight will be a procession showcasing the diversity of Dayak cultural grandeur, which will end at the Kuching Waterfront.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas led the organising committee to pay a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office in the State Legislative Assembly Complex in Petra Jaya here yesterday.

Other members of the delegation were Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, Deputy State Secretary Datu Jaul Samion, Eastern Field Command commander Lt Gen Datuk Stephen Mundaw, Ministry of Utilities permanent secretary Datuk Alice Jawan, and Chief Minister’s Department Administrative Unit director Antonio Kahti Galis.

During the visit, members of the delegation briefed Abang Johari on the programme and the significance of the celebration.

They also invited him to officially launch the event.
