SIBU: A total of 583 premises here have so far been inspected by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) as part of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2018 Price Control Scheme.

KPDNKK Sibu chief Roslee Maslie said no violations have been recorded as of yesterday, as locals traders continue to adhere to the scheme.

“All traders inspected by KPDNKK were found to have complied with the festive price control scheme,” he said when contacted yesterday.

The inspection, he added, is part of the ministry’s 15-day operation to ensure traders do not hike the price of gazetted items, which must be displayed with pink price tags.

Price-hiking of these gazetted items would constitute as an offence under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

Upon conviction, an individual can be fined up to RM100,000 or sentenced to three years’ jail, or both, or face a compound up to RM50,000.

Companies, on the other hand, can be fined up to RM500,000 or imposed with a compound up to RM250,000.

Failure to display pink price tags for gazetted items can result in an individual being fined up to RM10,000 or compounded up to RM5,000, upon conviction.

Companies can be fined up to RM20,000 or compounded up to RM10,000.

On a separate matter, Roslee disclosed that since June 1, KPDNKK Sibu had received 17 complaints related to the failure to zero-rate the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
