KAPIT: The Kapit Kwang Tung Association held a dinner on Wednesday to acknowledge the contributions of parents.
In his speech, chairman Kong Sien Hua called on members of the Cantonese community to ensure they practice the true meaning of filial piety.
“This moral value should be put into practise and not mere lip service. Adults must lead a good example for the younger generation. It is the children’s obligation to take care of their parents when they grow older.
“It is sort of like paying back all the good deeds when we were small when our parents took care of us. So when they grow old, it is our turn to carry out our responsibility to reciprocate all the good that they have done for us,” he said.
All parents at the event were presented with angpows.
The programme for the dinner included a traditional costume competition, folk dance, games, and karaoke.
