BINTULU: Sarawak Energy Bhd’s (Sarawak Energy) recently celebrated its one million man-hours without lost time injury (LTI) for its 842MW Tanjung Kidurong Combined Cycle Gas Power Plant project in Bintulu.
The project, which commenced in 2016, is set to be one of the most efficient combined cycle power plants for its class in the world when construction is completed.
In a press statement, Sarawak Energy group chief executive officer Sharbini Suhaili said, “Safety is Sarawak Energy’s top priority, and today marks a significant milestone in the project’s progress as well as our journey towards zero injuries in line with our Health Safety and Environment Key Focus Area.
“We want to create focus in the organisation and ensure that everyone is working towards the same objectives – including all 5,000 of our employees throughout the state, our contractors, sub-contractors and their employees.
“The safety of our contractors and their employees are very important to us. We are building partnerships with our contractors to ensure that safety is given top priority across all levels.”
Sharbini presented the certificate to GE-Sinohydro Consortium at an event held at the project site earlier. The consortium, which has a headcount of 600 at the worksite, officially achieved the feat on April 22 of this year.
Also present were People’s Republic of China’s General Consul in Kuching, Cheng Guangzhong; GE Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Mark Rozario, Sinohydro Malaysia managing director Ji Xiaoyong, SEB Power chief executive officer James Ung, as well as representatives from GE-Sinohydro Consortium and Sarawak Energy.
Sharbini, Mark and Ji also signed a plaque at the event to commemorate the shared commitment between Sarawak Energy and GE-Sinohydro Consortium to instill ‘go green’ practices on the project site under Sarawak Energy’s ‘Zero Polystyrene, Reduce Single-Use Plastic’ campaign.
GE-Sinohydro Consortium was also recently awarded a Silver Rating at the inaugural Sarawak Energy Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Compliance Awards in March this year for the Tanjung Kidurong project.
The awards ceremony was organised to recognise efforts by contractors and consultants that met a high level of compliance with EIA assessment requirements and standards as well as conditions of approval, enforced at Federal and State level, in undertaking projects awarded by Sarawak Energy.
The state-owned energy development company and power utility harnesses the state’s indigenous gas resources to ensure security of supply in order to provide all Sarawakians reliable and affordable power.
