Baru receives warm welcome at KIA

KUCHING: Minister of Works Baru Bian was given a warm welcome upon his maiden arrival as a minister under the new PH federal government at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) yesterday.

More than 50 people turned up at KIA to welcome and greet him. Baru was sworn in as Works Minister at Istana Negara on July 2.

A group of ‘kompang’ players were the first to break the silence as soon as Baru stepped out of the arrival hall by rendering the song ‘Berkikis Bulu Betis’.

Spending about a minute to acknowledge the performers, Baru the proceeded outside the airport terminal where a lion dance performance was choreographed specially for his arrival.

Baru also managed to exchange greetings and handshakes with those who lined up to meet him as well as give a big smile to the cameras.

Among those present were Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin, PKR Wanita National vice-chief Voon Shiak Nee, Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How and state PKR Women chief Nurhanim Mokhsen.
