SARIKEI: The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sarawak will conduct free mass anti-rabies vaccination for dogs at its office along Jalan Kapur here this July 14, running from 9amto 5pm.

The exercise is undertaken following the detection of a positive rabies case affecting a dog at KM0.2 of Jakar/Sebangkoi Road near here recently.

According to the department, dog owners from all across this district can bring their pets to the DVS office that day and have them undergo free vaccination against rabies.

“The dog owners are required to bring along their personal identification documents to facilitate the registration process.

“The main objective of the programme is to ensure that Sarikei is free of rabies,” said DVS Sarawak, adding that all dog owners from this district who have not had their pets vaccinated yet should come.

However, members of the public are strongly reminded against bringing in any dog that comes from any rabies-declared area in Sarawak.

“They are also advised against picking up stray puppies or adult dogs.

“We also request for cooperation from the public as our personnel are currently running free house-to-house free anti-rabies vaccination exercise, covering areas within the 10km radius from Jakar town,” said DVS Sarawak.
