MIRI: The Magistrates’ Court here yesterday remanded for three days a repeat offender, suspected of ramming his four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle into the car of a woman and injuring her, to facilitate the police investigation.

The 26-year-old suspect from Pujut 2 will be remanded at the Miri Central police station under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

In his application, investigating officer Insp Wira Sumbin said on May 10, a 32-year-old cook filed a police report claiming that at 10.48pm on May 9, while stopping at a traffic light intersection at Jalan Merbau, her car was knocked from behind by a 4WD vehicle driven by an unknown man.

She said the driver got out of the vehicle and threatened to kill her because he claimed she was the reason he was arrested by the police.

The incident left her with injuries to her leg.

Acting on information given, on Monday around 12.30pm, police arrested a man in front of a 24-hour convenience store at Jalan Brooke on suspicion of his involvement in the case.

In his application, Wira said a four-day remand was needed to enable a thorough investigation under Section 324 and 427 of the Penal Code.

Apart from that, he said police also needed time to track the case exhibits, which are a pair of scissors and the 4WD vehicle used by the suspect during the incident.

He said releasing the suspect early would also jeopardise the investigation.

However, the court only allowed a three-day remand until tomorrow.
