KAPIT: The Welfare Department here recently hosted a mini-carnival for locals aged 65 years and above, in collaboration with the Kapit Senior Citizens Service Centre.

Service centre chairman Penghulu Steward Sawing said the one-day programme was part of activities planned to encourage more senior citizens to join the centre.

“This service centre is supported by the Welfare Department to provide care to the senior citizens in Kapit and those from nearby areas. Our goal is to register senior citizens and plan suitable and healthy activities for them to take part in.

“It is important that they are aware of the importance of regular exercise to keep fit, have a balanced diet and also to look after their blood pressure and glucose levels,” he said.

Among the activities carried out during the mini-carnival were an aerobics session, a talk on nutrition and diet, general health screening and a karaoke competition. Political secretary to chief minister Tapah Ata officiated at the opening ceremony.
