KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud received a courtesy call from the main committee of Pesta Benak 2018 led by Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, who is also state assemblyman for Simanggang, yesterday.

The purpose of the courtesy call was to invite the Head of State to launch the festival which is expected to be held on Aug 10-12.

Themed ‘Sri Aman Mansang Maju’, the organisers hope the festival will contribute to expand Sarawak’s tourism industry and showcase the ‘Benak Batang Lupar’ as a tourism product that is unique to Sarawak and the country.

The objective of the festival is to make Bandar Sri Aman a popular tidal bore town in Malaysia and at the same time to showcase the unique local products including food, culture, arts and heritage as tourism attraction.

Joining the courtesy call were Sri Aman Resident and chairman of the main committee for the festival Indit Bangai, its treasurer Evangelyn Teddy, secretary Crispin Francis and assistant secretary Rita Ros.
