KUCHING: The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) kicked off the first leg of its exciting ACCA ‘a.c.t’ Tour by hosting an event for its students, affiliates, members and business partners at a leading hotel here yesterday.

Being Malaysia’s largest foreign professional body, ACCA organised the event as part of their nationwide series of roadshow to engage and interact with their stakeholders across the country.

“This is our first in Kuching where we can meet students and brief them on the qualification changes, and inform them of the support that they can get from ACCA,” said ACCA Malaysia country head Edward Ling.

He added that ACCA has more than 14,000 members and 32,000 students in Malaysia. And out of the figure, 800 ACCA members and more than 1,000 students are from Sarawak.

“In Sarawak, there are at least 500 to 600 students who are doing their self studies, which is one of the main reasons why we are holding this roadshow,” said Ling.

According to him, ACCA’s principle is always wanting their students to progress until they have become an affiliate upon graduation and continue on to become a full member of ACCA.

Due to the open policies of ACCA, he said students are allowed to study at a pace convenient to themselves while the roadshow will teach students how to learn more effectively and know the correct methodology.

As the global body for professional accountants, he said ACCA is at the forefront of shaping the accountancy profession.

In the past 82 years, ACCA has developed thousands of professional accountants in Malaysia and many of them are top leaders in today’s business and corporate world, he added.

He also said ACCA has put a lot of effort by sending in teams on a monthly basis to meet their students, university partners and tuition providers in Kuching for different purposes.

“Kuching is definitely not forgotten. This roadshow is where all the teams will gather to meet our partners as we strive for a win-win situation for everyone,” he added.

He also said ACCA has a presence in 179 countries and has a total of 104 offices globally to serve its students and affiliates.

Also being held yesterday was the sharing session of success stories of past students and a talk by Sunway College Kuching chief executive officer Joseph Lim.

After the Kuching leg, the roadshow will continue to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on July 28; Ipoh, Perak (August 17); Kuantan, Pahang (Sept 7); Penang (Sept 29) and Johor Bahru, Johor (Oct 13).
