Staff members of PKR Miri office work together to process the nomination forms for the representatives from the party’s Baram branch.

MIRI: There will be no contest for the chairmen’s posts in both Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) branches in Miri and Baram.

National PKR Women vice-chief Voon Shiak Ni confirmed this when met during the nomination day for the branch elections at PKR Miri office yesterday.

“We’ve been informed that Miri MP Dr Michael Teo would continue to head PKR Miri, and Roland Egan to head PKR Baram.”

Voon, who is also the political secretary to Dr Teo, said PKR Miri had been assigned as the party’s northern region centre to process all the election nomination forms from five PKR branches – those in Miri, Lawas, Limbang, Sibuti and Baram.

She also said the PKR Miri office was operational from 8am to 5pm yesterday, to facilitate the process.

“Voting will be held simultaneously at all PKR branches across Sarawak, including the five (Miri, Sibuti, Baram, Limbang and Lawas) in the northern region, this Oct 6. The elections are meant to select the three top posts – the chairman, deputy chairman and vice chairman – as well as 15 committee members, for each branch.”

On a separate issue, Voon said for this month to date, the PKR working committee for Miri parliament constituency had received about 350 public complaints including those concerning identification documents, infrastructure, council services and land applications.

“We have already forwarded these issues to the relevant agencies and departments. We would definitely continue to follow up on the matter.”

In addition, the PKR Miri parliamentary constituency centre would host a networking dinner, set to gather with more than 100 representatives of local government’s departments and agencies, at Gymkhana Club of Miri this July 30, with the ceremony scheduled to commence at 7pm. According to Voon, the main objective of the dinner is to foster better ties and cooperation between PKR Miri and local government officials and staff members.
